Garfield Minus Garfield

The list of comics that I read online is getting progressively longer. I must credit Liza Blake with sending this one my way.

Garfield Minus Garfield is incredible. I chuckle at regular Garfield from time to time, but the orange feline doesn’t really do it for me. He’s too much of a smartass, too aloof. This comic solves that problem by taking him out of the picture. So all we see is Jon saying weird, funny, sad, or unintentionally insightful things. It is SO MUCH BETTER than the original comic, in my humble opinion. It turns into a bitingly funny commentary on what loneliness and boredom can do if left unchecked. The post I linked to is the latest and one of the funniest I’ve seen, but there are a bunch more gems in the archive. Some of them suffer a bit from Garfield’s absence, only because you get a couple of repeat frames of Jon doing nothing. But sometimes this adds to the comic effect. I wonder what Jim Davis thinks of this?
